Avanta Condominium is another of Samui's rare condo projects: low-rise blocks near Maenam beach with a communal pool, parking and security. Units are studios and one- to two-bedroom apartments, usually with a kitchen, air conditioning and a balcony; some windows face the garden, some the sea.
Maenam is the island's 'village' north, and long-stayers love it: a long calm beach, the Thursday market, brunch cafés and prices below Chaweng's. The sea here is shallow and goes far out at low tide — easy with small children, less so if you want a morning swim on demand. The airport is ~20 minutes away, Chaweng 25–30. Rent: studios from ~$320/month and from ~$20/night.
Best for: Long-stayers and remote workers: a quiet beach, affordable prices and a minimum of tourist bustle.

Why is Maenam cheaper?
It's further from Chaweng with its mall and nightlife, and the beach is shallow. In return you get lower prices and quiet — a trade many long-stayers consider a bargain.
What about the tides?
On the north and west coasts they're pronounced: the water pulls back dozens of metres. People check the tide table in advance and plan swimming around it, or drive to the east-coast beaches.
