No — this is the one district on Samui where shops, the market, cafés and the beach are all walkable. Songthaews run fixed routes along the ring road by day for 50–100 THB; after dark they work as negotiable taxis.
Does Chaweng really flood in November?
November and early December are the peak of the northeast monsoon, around 500 mm of rain, and the streets do flood for a few hours after heavy downpours. The rain itself is short, but avoid low-lying places near the canal in that season.
