Bophut is the north coast and the grown-up alternative to Chaweng. Its core is Fisherman's Village: a row of old wooden shophouses turned into restaurants, boutique hotels and bars such as Coco Tam's, with a Friday night market that pulls half the island onto the seafront. Behind it are residential sois with apart-residences (Replay Residence, Horizon Residence, Arisara Place), brunch cafés and small supermarkets.
The beach is narrow, the sand golden and slightly coarser than Chaweng's, with a gentle entry. The north coast is shielded from the winter northeast wind, so from December to March the water is calmer here than on the east side — the main argument for Bophut. The trade-off is the tide: at low water the shallows are exposed, and swimming is better timed to the incoming tide. Across the strait you can see the outline of Koh Phangan.

Is Bophut noisy?
Only on the seafront itself near the bars, and that winds down around midnight. The residential sois 300–500 metres inland are quiet — people choose Bophut precisely because Chaweng is loud.
Can you live in Bophut without a scooter?
Just about: shops, cafés and the beach are walkable from the village. But housing further out is scattered across the sois, so most people rent a scooter for 200–300 THB a day. Songthaews run the ring road during daylight hours.
